Hero Gear is the per-hero equipment system that, once you reach the late game, becomes one of your biggest sources of troop power. Unlike Chief Gear (which buffs every march), Hero Gear is tied to the three troop-type sets — and the upgrade path runs all the way through Mastery Forging, Legendary ascension, and hero-specific Exclusive Weapons. This guide explains what to upgrade, in what order, and how to budget the rare materials.

The Six Hero Gear Pieces

Hero Gear is split across the three troop types — Infantry, Marksman, and Lancer — with each set built from lethality and health pieces:

Lethality pieces: Goggles and Boots
Health pieces: Belt and Gloves

Every troop type has its own set, so your upgrade decisions come down to which set's lethality or health to push first.

Hero Gear Upgrade Priority

The community-tested priority order, weighted toward the stats that matter most in combat, is:

Infantry Health → Marksman Lethality → Lancer Lethality → → Marksman Health → Infantry Lethality → Lancer Health

The first three should be roughly double the level of the last three. In short: your Infantry frontline needs Health to survive, and your damage dealers (Marksmen, then Lancers) need Lethality to hit hard. Build those first.

Upgrade Materials

Gear components/plans — the base materials for raising gear levels.
Essence Stones — used for Mastery Forging. The main source is Bear Hunt rallies (higher contribution rank = more stones), plus Exploration stages, the Arena, sacrificing lower-quality gear, and events like Hall of Chiefs and King of Icefield.
Mithril — the rarest material, needed for Legendary Empowerment. You can buy one Mithril per week from the Labyrinth Shop — buy it every single week, because each Legendary piece needs around 150 Mithril to reach max Empowerment.

⚠️ Never skip your weekly Mithril. At one per week and ~150 per Legendary piece, Mithril is the true bottleneck of the entire Hero Gear endgame. Missing weeks sets your Legendary timeline back by months.

The Upgrade Path: Level → Mastery → Legendary

Level up your Gold (Mythic) gear normally with components.
Mastery Forging — unlocks for Gold gear once your Furnace is Level 20 and the piece is at Enhancement Level 20. It applies a large buff on top of the gear's existing bonuses, using Essence Stones.
Legendary Ascension — once a Mythic piece reaches Level 100 and Mastery Level 10, you can combine two Mythic pieces to ascend it to Legendary.
Empowerment — Legendary gear gains extra bonuses at Levels 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100, each milestone spending Mithril (and Mythic gear).

Exclusive Weapons (Exclusive Gear)

Gold-quality (Mythic) heroes get an extra gear slot for an Exclusive Weapon unique to that hero:

It unlocks after you Ascend the hero to 1 Star.
Unlocking it requires 5 Widgets specific to that hero's exclusive gear.
Once equipped and upgraded, it boosts the hero's Attack, Defense, Health, and command buffs (troop Health and Lethality) — and unlocks 2 extra Exclusive Skills that can redefine the hero's kit.
